In my opinion, the “Gold Standard” for female vocalists-in any genre of music-is Carrie Underwood. I’ve heard “Something In The Water” at least 10 million times, and every time I hear the last 30 seconds, it brings tears to my eyes-not just because of the message, but because of the awesome display of talent.
Before Carrie, there is no question (to me) that Whitney Houston was the best. Wow, was she something. All who worked with her talked about how amazing she was in-studio, take after take. I saw her as a performer when I was in high school-opening up for the late, great, Luther Vandross-and she was unreal.
Unfortunately and tragically, Whitney’s life became unraveled and her light was extinguished WAYYYY too soon.
I’ve heard about a Lifetime biopic in the works, but didn’t even know it had begun production. Well, it’s coming soon and is directed by Angela Bassett, no stranger to music movies before having portrayed Tina Turner and the matriarch of the Jackson clan, Katherine Jackson.
Check it out.
